The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly, But the mouth of fools pours forth foolishness. (Proverbs 15:2 NKJV)
We see that, 'The mouth of fools pours forth foolishness.' How does 'the tongue of the wise (use) knowledge rightly'?
The lips of the wise disperse knowledge, But the heart of the fool does not do so. (Proverbs 15:7 NKJV)
The wise man shares what knowledge he has, and we see here that the fool does not, meaning only foolishness comes from his mouth.
Jesus said to the Pharisees:
Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. (Matthew 12:34 NKJV)
Evil things spew out from a foolish heart, and good things flow from a wise heart. James writes in his epistle:
Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh. (James 3:10-12 NKJV)
There are only two options to take when we speak: to speak good, wise, knowledge, or to speak evil, foolishness. But it all begins with the heart.
The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, But the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness. (Proverbs 15:14 NKJV)
It all begins with what we feed ourselves with. If we seek what is good, then we will share what is good. James continues by differentiating heavenly from demonic wisdom:
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. (James 3:13-18 NKJV)
It is only through the Holy Spirit that we are caused to seek Him. Without Him we easily fall into the trap of believing we have everything figured out and in control. The Holy Spirit becomes our Advocate and our Helper in these matters of speaking (and so much more!) only when we accept and believe in our hearts that Jesus Christ died and rose again, and in the process saved us.
And so I share to you right now, dear reader, that I believe your purpose and potential will only be known when you go back to your Creator. Jesus Christ made it possible for you to approach God when He died on the cross. You can't go to Him because of all the 'good' things you did. Jesus Christ did the one and only act that saved your soul, your spirit, and your life.
Believe in The Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved. (Acts 16:31)
