Parental Guidance Is Required

Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise, Which, having no captain, Overseer or ruler, Provides her supplies in the summer, And gathers her food in the harvest.

How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep— So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler, And your need like an armed man.

A worthless person, a wicked man, Walks with a perverse mouth; He winks with his eyes, He shuffles his feet, He points with his fingers; Perversity is in his heart, He devises evil continually, He sows discord.

Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly; Suddenly he shall be broken without remedy.

(Proverbs 6:6-15 NKJV)

We should not make the mistake of yielding to what the world has to offer which leads us to laziness and/or wickedness. The moment we give in to these subtle temptations (which the enemy will never stop assaulting us with) we lose focus, we become distracted, and most importantly, we distance ourselves from the presence of God. We take one step away from God, one step closer to failure and destruction - "The way of the wicked is like gloomy darkness; they do not know what causes them to stumble." (Proverbs 4:19)

My son, keep your father's command, And do not forsake the law of your mother. Bind them continually upon your heart; Tie them around your neck. When you roam, they will lead you; When you sleep, they will keep you; And when you awake, they will speak with you.

For the commandment is a lamp, And the law a light; Reproofs of instruction are the way of life, To keep you from the evil woman, From the flattering tongue of a seductress. (Proverbs 6:20-24 NKJV)

We honor our parents by heeding their word and respecting what they have to say. I believe that if we keep ourselves in the presence of God we will not make any mistakes in doing this.

And may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another and for all, just as we do for you, so that your hearts are strengthened in holiness to be blameless before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints. -1 Thessalonians 3:12-13

God is able to abound us in love that we may do what is in His will gracefully. He is the source of the love we give back to our parents, and as we respect what they have to say we see that we will have light to keep on going our own paths, even as they depart from this earth. Let us not make the mistake of taking them for granted, only to be full of regret when they can no longer speak.

"Honor your father and your mother, that you may live a long time in the land the LORD your God is giving to you. -Exodus 20:12

Honoring our parents is not only obeying a commandment, but it is also for our own good. Avoid being distracted by the enemy; let your parents see the love of God through you today. Sometimes it just means increased communication with them..

A word for myself as much as it is for every son and daughter out there. God bless us all.
