Psalm 3:3

"...weep with them that weep."

-Romans 12:15

The term 'sudden death' provokes such strong emotions, if used in a football game, and especially when taken literally.

Today I noticed that what hurts more than the end of a loved one's physical life is the absolute uncertainty of whether he or she accepted Christ or not. It is yet another very humbling moment for a follower of Christ to experience, especially since if you really have called this person a loved one, you would have done your best to at least try to testify about God's perfect love for us through salvation only in Jesus Christ. Let us not, however, fall into the trap of wallowing in guilt - remember that only Jesus Christ saves, and self-pity gets us nowhere.

Times like these are moments for us to "Submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you" (James 4:7) - lift all emotion to the Lord and rely on the Holy Spirit to minister to us that we would be willing vessels to comfort those who have been left behind. We may be the only Bible that these people read.

God bless us all. Physical death can come so suddenly, and really, all we can do is be ready.

I'll miss you, Manong Kirk.
