Strength at Home

Listen to your father who gave you life, and don't despise your mother because she is old. -Proverbs 23:22

These words came at me like a sledgehammer to the chest. Regardless of how old our parents are blessed to be, the Word of God still stands that we should honor them, especially if we want to live a long life in the lands God has promised to us.

They deserve honor, all the time. Remember that you wouldn't be here without them. And always keep in mind that they are also created in God's image, and that Jesus Christ died for them as much as He died for you - with a love beyond our own understanding.

The enemy knows the strength of the family, and he definitely recognizes the potentials of a strong relationship between parents and their children. He will definitely try to tempt us to give in to frustration, irritation, and irrational anger. If he won't get you that way, he will try to keep you busy so that you wouldn't have any time to talk to each other.

Yes, if there is anything that we should mend, address, and/or uphold, it would be the relationships we have between one another in our own families. For how can we hope to claim peace in our other relationships if we are not at peace every time we are home?

Recently I've been committing myself to the Word of God more, giving Him more time. Talking to mom a bit more in God's presence (and vice versa :) ) will definitely be a big help to this household.

Put aside everything you've learned, everything you've exposed yourself to, and let the perfect love of the Lord course through you.

Listen, my son, and be wise; keep your mind on the right course. -Proverbs 23:19
