Notes for Proverbs 18 - Graceful Communication

A fool takes no pleasure in understanding but only in disclosing what is on his mind. -Proverbs 18:2

For a fool, it is only his opinion that matters. How does that fare for him?

The lips of a fool enter into strife, and his mouth invites a flogging. The mouth of a fool is his ruin, and his lips are a snare for his life. -Proverbs 18:6-7

There is no peace in a fool's words. His words will be his downfall.

The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down into the person's innermost being. -Proverbs 18:8
The one who gives an answer before he listens - that is his folly and his shame. -Proverbs 18:13

Do not underestimate gossip; be cautious and discerning. Test all things and hold fast to what is good. Receive truth and respond only in truth.

The discerning person acquires knowledge, and the wise person seeks knowledge. -Proverbs 18:15
The first to state his case seems right, until his opponent begins to cross-examine him. -Proverbs 18:17

Collect the facts, and once again, respond in truth and with grace.

From the fruit of a person's mouth his stomach is satisfied, with the product of his lips is he satisfied. -Proverbs 18:20

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love its use will eat its fruit. -Proverbs 18:21
