Always stand for truth and mercy. Remember where to go: the Holy Spirit leads us into all truth (John 16:13), and the Lord's mercy is as high as the heavens are from the earth (Psalm 103:11).
I think that as believers we should always keep on contemplating on how great the Lord's love and mercy is for us. Let me take this time to remind you (and myself, in the process) the whole human race was damned to hell because of sin. No amount of effort on our part could have brought us anywhere near salvation. Our good deeds would have amounted to nothing. No, brother and sister, we were saved only through God's unconditional love.
It doesn't matter if we killed anyone or not. It isn't about how we treat people. It's not about how virtuous of a life we live. It's not based on our own opinions - if we think we never sinned, and that that was enough to give us salvation, we are only lying to ourselves. No, it all starts with God's love for us, perfectly demonstrated when He sent His only Son to die on the cross, to take the ultimate punishment for our sins.
These are big things that should keep us going - The knowledge of mercy through Jesus Christ, and the truth made known to us by the Holy Spirit. The Will to keep walking in the light of these virtues every day is already a privilege on its own, considering that it is one method for Christ to work through us. If mercy and truth are so infused into our hearts, it allows us to be blessed by the Lord even more, because we would definitely reflect more of Jesus' character. And consequently, if we act with mercy and truth, people would definitely notice, providing us with openings to minister for the advancement of God's kingdom.
This here is the 'favor and good understanding, in the sight of God and people'.
The Proverbs in the Bible tell of the blessings which follow those who follow the Lord. I just elaborated as much as i could on just one of them. The third proverb alone has some powerful promises:
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:7-8 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
Proverbs 3:9-10 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
Read a proverb every day. There are 31 chapters in the Book of Proverbs, one for every day.
God bless you.
