Plan for Purpose (092610)

I keep saying to myself that every declaration or every word that comes out of my mouth has its bearing. But have I been so consumed by watching what I am saying that I forget something equally important - the heart, the soul behind the mouth?

God desires all of us - not just our mouths. We would do well by letting Him know all of out plans. Keeping it from Him is an act of pride, an act which demonstrates one's arrogant, ungrateful and selfish refusal to understand the Lord, to get to know Him more.

Isaiah 29:15-16 Those who try to hide their plans from the LORD are as good as dead, who do their work in secret and boast, "Who sees us? Who knows what we're doing?" Your thinking is perverse! Should the potter be regarded as clay? Should the thing made say about its maker, "He didn't make me"? Or should the pottery say about the potter, "He doesn't understand"?

On the other hand, I am reminded of what Proverbs 16 says about our plans:

Proverbs 16:2-3 All a person's ways seem right in his own opinion, but the LORD evaluates the motives. Commit your works to the LORD, and your plans will be established.

We may think we are right, but as we search our hearts and as we allow the Lord to see our motives we should always remember that we are bound by the limits of what we know. We should always remember to commit everything we do to God, simply because letting Him - the omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, living Holy One of Israel - letting Him know what we are doing is an act of worship, an act of trust in Him. In this way I believe our plans will truly be established.

James 4:14-15 You do not know about tomorrow. What is your life like? For you are a puff of smoke that appears for a short time and then vanishes. You ought to say instead, "If the Lord is willing, then we will live and do this or that."

We should consider all our options, carefully declaring that we submit to God's Will instead of blindly stepping forth and saying what is to be done without acknowledging Him.
God bless you.
